This is a type FW3/22 pillbox originally constructed in 1940 as part of the Dorset coastal defences. The earliest draft of Operation Sealion included landings in Lyme Bay. These were later shelved at the behest of the German Navy due to the logistical problems of crossing the Channel as much shorter passages for invasion craft existed to the east. Fortunately, the invasion never came....
