SJ8955 : Warder's Lodge at Knypersley Pool
The folly at Knypersley is, in fact, the Warder’s Lodge, a gamekeeper’s cottage in the form of a miniature castle of red sandstone, which stands on a promontory above a serpentine lake on the boundary of the Knypersley Hall and Greenway Bank estates.

Built in 1828/9 it was occupied until recent years and the Landmark Trust are looking to lease the building from Staffordshire County Council the present owners.

The Greenway Bank Estate was bought in about 1780 by Hugh Henshall, successor and brother–in-law to the canal builder James Brindley, where he built an hall. Later it was to pass into the hands of the Bateman family of Knypersley Hall, Bateman going on to build Biddulph Grange.

In 1827 Knypersley reservoir, designed by Thomas Telford as a feeder for the Caldon Canal, was built as the existing pool, the Serpentine, was found to be inadequate.

The Warders Lodge was occupied by the Harrison family in the 1830s.
