SO0411 : Former limestone workings

taken 16 years ago, near to Vaynor, Merthyr Tydfil/Merthyr Tudful, Wales

Former limestone workings
Former limestone workings
The stony mound in the hollow is the remains of a crude limekiln which was fed with limestone quarried from the outcrop just above it. Limekilns of all shapes and sizes abound in the limestone belt which sweeps across the southern slopes of the Brecon Beacons National Park.
