Grave of W.G.Grace, Beckenham Cemetery, Beckenham
Whilst searching for Grace's final resting place I serendipitously came across the grave of Thomas Crapper, “Inventor and Sanitary Pioneer; Founder in 1861 of Thomas Crapper and Co”. Crapper has been credited with the invention of the flush toilet and his name said to be the etymological source of the word crap. Sadly both of these are myths. Though Crapper did hold several patents for plumbing related products, the flush toilet was not one of them. And the word crap has its origins in the Middle English crappe, meaning chaff and Middle Dutch krappen, meaning to tear off.
