St Benedict's church - carved bench elbow

St Benedict's church > Link - Link is located close by the River Bure and has its own staithe > Link. The building dates from the 13th century, with the tower added in the 14th century, but was extensively restored in Victorian times. The narrow priest's door > Link has survived but the north aisle, the former arcades of which can still be seen outlined in the wall > Link - Link was demolished in the 18th century. Some of the benches have poppyheads and carved figures _ one example seen here; see also > Link. The octagonal font > Link dates from the 14th century. The church is open every day.
