NS8479 : Six-spot Burnet Moth (Zygaena filipendulae)

near to High Bonnybridge, Falkirk, Great Britain

Six-spot Burnet Moth (Zygaena filipendulae)
Six-spot Burnet Moth (Zygaena filipendulae)
This might be taken for a Five-spot Burnet Moth, but this is because the patterning of the six-spot can vary, and some of its spots can fuse, as is the case here (the five-spot, in contrast, has a southern distribution in Britain). This species was abundant in the grassland where the photo was taken.
