Feeding Of Animals Prohibited on Cadnam Common
Feeding Of Animals Prohibited on Cadnam Common
Taken from the junction of Cadnam Lane and Furzley Road, this photo shows the eastern part of Cadnam Common. It is one of the many "adjacent commons", that is, adjacent to the New Forest, owned by the National Trust. There are many of these old signs banning the feeding of the commoners stock - it is prohibited firstly to protect the animals (they belong to someone, and are supposed to graze the common) and secondly to protect people from aggressive ponies that have developed a taste for picnic food.
