South Brent - centenary of first 100 mph British train !
The South Devon Railway/GWR skirts the southern edge of Dartmoor as it passes through South Brent. Here GWR 3440 City of Truro [the first British steam loco believed to have run at 100 mph in 1904 on an up Ocean Mail from Plymouth, and still steaming well in preservation] is seen bringing a special across the River Avon bridge on the return journey from Plymouth to mark the Centenary year of the 100mph record. The low late afternoon November sun catches the train, and shows up Aish Ridge in the background.
