St Leonard's House, Pollock Halls
Built in 1869 for Thomas Nelson, brother of the publisher William, by John Lessels, "fiercest hammer-dressed baronial" (Edinburgh (Buildings of Scotland): John Gifford, Colin McWilliam, David Walker, Penguin, rev 1991). Now part of the Pollock Halls of Residence for the University of Edinburgh, and nicely contrasting with the modern buildings around it.
