Ever encroaching buckthorn
The dune systems of East Lothian are being trashed by this invasive plant which is spreading rapidly in many places. While it provides shelter and food for some birds, it forms a dark impassable mass. Keeping paths open through this thorny jungle is a very big task, it grows incredibly fast and a well used path in May may be gone for ever by August.
