John Hampden’s statue in Market Square
This bronze statue of John Hampden 1594-1643 by Henry Fehr stands in Aylesbury Market Square. He lived at SP8402 : Hampden House and its history and was the foremost of Buckinghamshire’s parliamentarians in the run up to the Civil War. His colleague, Arthur Goodwyn, wrote of him, "he was a gallant man, an honest man, an able man, and take all, I know not to any man living second – I would lay it to heart that God takes away the best amongst us".
