Disused Furnace Ventilation Shaft, Margrove Park Caravan Site
The ventilation shaft is one of the few remains of the mine built by the Stanghow Ironstone Company in 1872 which went into liquidation in 1892. A year later Cochrane and Company took out the lease on the mine and worked it until 1924. It was officially abandoned four years later. The mine area is still known locally as Margrove Park Mine or Magra Park. In early accounts books it is simply referred to as Magraw Pit.
