Lismore Parish Church
Lismore Parish Church
Until the mid-sixteenth century, Lismore was the seat of the Bishop of Argyll. A cathedral was constructed sometime between 1250 and 1320, but with the advent of the Reformation in Scotland, "the Cathedral of Argyll" inevitably suffered. Fortunately, the choir of this medieval cathedral survives today in the shape of the parish church.

A famous literary work entitled "The Book of the Dean of Lismore" was compiled during the period 1512-1542 by James MacGregor of Glen Lyon and is an invaluable collection of Gaelic verse and poetry.
