Dismantled railway looking north 1
This almost dismantled single track railway line was once part of the Great Central Railway, which when it opened in 1899 was the last main line twin track railway to be built. This section of the line was an alternative route to the London terminus at Marylebone via High Wycombe instead of sharing the line with the Metropolitan Railway via Aylesbury, and until the mid 90s a weekly freight train used this line to serve a fertiliser depot near Woodham about 4km to the south.

The track has been completely lifted however beyond this point, and after 150m the trackbed reaches the junction with the main section of the Great Central Railway that came from Sheffield and Nottingham in the north and ran south-east to Aylesbury, see SP7021 : Former railway junction. This line is now single track and is still used by freight trains, but there is no longer a physical connection between the two lines.
