The Kirk at Abbey St. Bathans
The Kirk at Abbey St. Bathans
A small chapel was believed to have been set up,in the 6th century, by St Bathan, a disciple of St. Columba. Later, in the 1200s, a small priory of Cistercian nuns was established by Ada, of Dunbar. The Priory was slighted by English troops in 1543. The present church is the refurbished priory and contains an interesting effigy of one of the Prioresses.
