Lion, Nelson's Column, Trafalgar Square
The four bronze lions set on granite plinths guard the base of Nelson's Column. They were sculpted by Sir Edwin Landseer and unveiled in 1868. Since then, they have witnessed many events from the VE Day celebrations to the Poll Tax riots. In January 2005 they were dressed for "Make Poverty History".
