Ride through Runt's Wood
This is the start of a ride through the north part of Runt's Wood, a remnant of the original Great Forest of Bernwood which was the hunting ground for deer and wild boar of medieval kings in the 11th and 12th centuries, see SP7221 : Finemere Wood.
More recently the wood has been used for charcoal and wood production so it is now a part replanted and part ancient woodland. The wood is recorded as Rump Wood on Bryant's map of 1825. All the land in the area is owned by the Claydon Estate of Claydon Park, Middle Claydon.
