Tyneham village, Isle of Purbeck
Tyneham village, Isle of Purbeck
A view south over the village of Tyneham from the Range Walk as it descends Whiteway Hill. Look closely and you will see that the houses are derelict, with only the church standing intact. The village was evacuated during the Second World War when the surrounding area was taken by the MOD for training purposes. It is still within the "danger area" of the Lulworth Ranges and the village residents have never been allowed back. The village is open to the public (including a restored 1940s village school and the church) when the ranges are inactive. The large visitors car park can just be seen to the right of the picture.
