Footpath alongside Tyneham Gwyle, Isle of Purbeck
This footpath leads from the public conveniences south of the Tyneham car park to the southern end of Worbarrow Bay. The gwyle (pronounced goyle) means "a wooded glen near the mouth of a stream". Withies from willows cultivated in the gwyle were once used to weave lobster pots. The trees have been showered with shrapnel from the surrounding MOD firing range, which means that the trees are otherwise unmolested since it is not safe to cut them with chainsaws.
