Bridge Street Ramsbottom
Bridge Street Ramsbottom
This is Bridge Street in the centre of Ramsbottom during the annual
World Blackpudding Throwing Championship.
The event sees competitors throw black puddings in an attempt to knock Yorkshire puddings from a 20ft high plinth,
a cheeky reference to the centuries-old rivalry between Lancashire and Yorkshire.
The golden grid, on which competitors stand when they throw their puddings, arrived by steam train at Ramsbottom Station shortly before noon and was escorted to the Royal Oak pub on Bridge Street with much pomp and ceremony.
Winning brings celebrity status and the glare of the media spotlight.
The 2008 winner was 23 year old Adam Arthern from Radcliffe Greater Manchester.
