This church dates back to 1327 when Ralph Lord Bassett was licensed by the King - the recently crowned Edward III - to discharge a debt by building a church at Drayton. However, due to neglect the old church crumbled and was severely damaged by a storm in 1792. Most of the church required rebuilding, though part of the tower dates from this old church. Sir Robert Peel Link the famous Conservative Prime Minister, and MP for nearby Tamworth is entombed here, and his family enlarged the church in memory of him. see Link
