near to Beccles, Suffolk, Great Britain

Beccles station yard looking north
Beccles station with its now single line to Lowestoft. Beccles was once an important junction, being on the East Suffolk line. The mainline once went to Yarmouth South Town but now only the branch to Lowestoft survives. Also the branch to Tivetshall went off to the left. The middle platform was be reused soon as a new loop is to go in soon between Beccles and Lowestoft increasing services.
The signal box was located on the left (demolished in the 1980s when the line was singled) and the turntable pit still survives albeit filled in. The engine shed was also demolished in 2006 to be replaced by the focus DIY in the distance.
