Salmon Fish Farm on Loch Alsh
Fish Farming is a major business in the clean flowing waters of the Scottish lochs. This image shows the extensive cage structure covered by nets to keep the sea birds away from the food which is automatically dispensed into the cages via the black pipes shown snaking away to the right. They go to a moored specialist vessel which pumps the feed to the cages. The complex shown is one of two.
This revolution in feeding technology has reduced the need for staff from many down to just two, leading to a more viable business.
This image was taken from Seaprobe Atlantis, the glass-bottomed boat which takes tourists for trips into Loch Alsh.
