Rosebay Willowherb
Close up of this seeding plant which is growing in profusion along the old railway track. See NZ5506 : Course of Old Railway. Rosebay Willowherb is a plant which is the first to grow after a fire hence the alternative name Fireweed. Fires were not uncommon along the sides of railways and when the Rosebay's feathered seeds caught in the slipstream of trains a rapid dispersal along the railways ensured.
