Memorial cairn to John Roy Stuart, (1700-1752)
Born near here John Roy Stuart was serving as a professional soldier in the French army when Bonnie Prince Charlie raised the Jacobite banner at Glenfinnan in August 1745. He returned to Scotland and joined the Prince at Blair Castle subsequently raising and commanding the Edinburgh Regiment. Following Culloden he was in hiding near his home eventually joining the Prince at Cluny's Cage on Ben Alder and sailing with him to France where in 1752 he died at St. Omer.
