Magnesian Limestone grassland near Newthorpe
The narrow band of limestone (dating from the Permian era) which runs northwards from Nottinghamshire to the Durham coast has a characteristically rich flora. Here, above a railway cutting on the line from Leeds to Selby are Greater Knapweed, Scabious and Hoary Ragwort among other attractive plants.
