Woodside View, Burley, Leeds
Woodside View, Burley, Leeds
This is a deliberate recreation of a photograph published in The Guardian Weekend magazine in November 2005, as part of an article on Leeds. That photograph was taken in the 1950's from this spot, looking in the same direction. Some significant differences between then and now - there were 2 women standing talking in the road in the old photo, cars parked in the new photo, big wheelie bins outside the houses. But the biggest difference is that in the old photo the view was dominated by two cooling towers beyond the end of the street, belonging to the power station by the River Aire.
Woodside View has examples of two types of housing - back-to-back terraces on the left, semi-detached on the right.
Photo taken from the junction of Woodside View and Bankfield Road, looking south(ish).
