The Maiden's Leap, Huntingtower Castle
From the battlements, showing the Maiden's Leap. This three-metre space between the two towers was only filled in during the late 17th century. According to legend, a daughter of the Ruthven family had crept across to visit her young man in his bedchamber in the eastern tower when she heard her mother approaching. To avoid discovery she fled up the stairs to the battlements and leapt across to the western tower, descending to her own bed unobserved. The young couple eloped the following day and enjoyed a long happy marriage.
