SJ9123 : Very rare railway trespass notice still in situ, Stafford.SJ9123 : Former junction of Stafford - Uttoxeter Line, GNRTo my amazement I came across this damaged but still readable London and North Eastern Railway trespass notice, situated near to the old Doxey Road railway bridge, on the former GNR Stafford to Uttoxeter branch, at the junction with the old LNWR west coast main line at Stafford.
Most notices of this kind were removed upon line closure and demolition. Looking at old photograps this one had a duplicate on the opposite side of the line, both seem to have been situated on some sort of gated crossing. It really was a surprise to come across this notice, damaged or not! It should be in a museum, or rather if it were not damaged it should be! I take someone tried to remove it at some time in the past, along with the other notice that adorned the post and just succeeded in breaking it.
Could this possibly be the last relic of the old LNER still in situe anywhere in Stafford? As this was an LMS area, these things would hardly have been common so I can only imagine that there are more hens teeth about! I know of an odd looking signalling device elsewhere on the branch but it's origin and use is questionable.
