SZ2999 : Eroded path across Setley Plain, New Forest

taken 18 years ago, near to Setley, Hampshire, England

Eroded path across Setley Plain, New Forest
Eroded path across Setley Plain, New Forest
This view is looking north along a well-trodden path across Setley Plain (the tall trees in the distance are around Latchmoor House). The white gravel has been exposed (white because it is bleached by the acid soil conditions on the heath), originally deposited in between ice ages when the Solent River was a substantial system, comparable in size to the present Thames.
