Abandoned coal barge, Etherow Country park
This tub boat was used to carry coal to Compstall. A tramway transported coal to the canal from a mine in Ernocroft Wood. The canal, which also supplied water to power cotton mills at Compstall, was constructed in the first quarter of the 19th century. The barge has been lying abandoned at this location since at least the 1920s.
