How do you measure the volume of water in a river?
Well, I'm not sure of the details but that little yellow trimaran gets dangled off a bridge and sends data to a laptop in the van parked nearby.
I did speak to the young man holding the other end of the rope and he spoke in terms of hundreds of tonnes per second. Not something to be underestimated, the power of a drop of rain.
