This small area of woodland is in an area where coal mining existed many years ago.
Today, it provides a "green barrier" between the village of Brimington and its much larger neighbour, Chesterfield town.text/html2005-07-05T09:19:54+00:00https://www.geograph.org.uk/profile/1045Philip Thompson53.355634 -1.205177SK5384 : Butterfly House

In the mid ground is the square of houses (model village) built for the workers of the local coal mine.text/html2005-07-02T20:16:37+00:00https://www.geograph.org.uk/profile/1045Philip Thompson52.878873 0.502485TF6834 : The Rose & Crown

This view shows the end of Avenue Road where it joins Whittington Moor. It was a thriving area on the A61 between Chesterfield and Sheffield until a bypass destroyed most of it.
The building in the picture (where I was born) was two houses adjoining the corner shop where my family ran an electrical and TV shop with an adjoining cycle shop many years ago.text/html2005-07-01T20:20:42+00:00https://www.geograph.org.uk/profile/1045Philip Thompson53.217940 -1.324542SK4569 : Lodge farm
