As can be seen from the earthing wires, both circuits on these 125KV lines have been turned off to enable the pylon to be repainted. Consequently, the city of Winchester, and surrounding parts such as Romsey, are temporarily dependent upon being supplied only from the National Grid substation at Nursling. The beige colour is the undercoat.

SU5218 : Corner Cottage, Sciviers Lane after fire

A fire broke out shortly before 11AM on Friday, 19th April in the thatch of this cottage. I had passed it at 10:30 and saw no sign of fire. It was visibly alight by 10:51 and twelve pumps were mobilised with compressed air foam systems at 11:49 with 94 fire fighters in attendance. Despite these efforts, the roof could not be saved. It took five hours to bring the fire under control, and Sciviers Lane was closed for most of the day.
TQ2679 : The Albert Memorial, Kensington Gardens

Looking square-on to this memorial from the central path on the north side of Kensington Gore. Camera held about 12 feet high on monopod.

This was a conscious attempt to recreate the 1894 photograph http://www.brisk.org.uk/london1894/albertmemorial.html at least as regards view direction and camera height. As luck would have it, the memorial was under repair at the time of my visit. The camera height of 12 feet is slightly above that of the 1894 original.

TQ3080 : Victoria Embankment from Waterloo Bridge

Looking along the Victoria Embankment from the northern end of Waterloo road Bridge, with the dome of St Paul's cathedral in the centre distance.

This was a conscious attempt to recreate the photograph taken in 1894 http://www.brisk.org.uk/london1894/victoriaembankment.html . The stonework in the foreground matches exactly, but the trees along the embankment are so much bigger that little can be seen of the buildings on the left.

This filling station has been bought by Sainsbury's and is being completely rebuilt from the ground up. Sainsbury's obtained planning permission to build a supermarket on the nearby [[842434]] but this did not include a filling station. So they bought this one.
