Compared to [[664426]], two sidings on the left have disappeared and the station land has shrunk, while the loop has been reduced to a pair of sidings. The 1984 itself had been taken just after further, extensive, sidings had been removed, a consequence of British Rail getting out of the general freight business.

The wharf on the other side of the tracks originally housed extensive pens for cattle and sheep brought over from Skye. In more recent years it had a stone crushing plant for converting Skye marble into ballast for use in track renewal. At the time this photograph was taken it had no clear use.

Compared with [[664437]] taken almost 20 years earlier, the track formation is almost the same, although the point and siding on the extreme right have been removed. The semaphore signals have been completely removed. There is a marked deterioration from the neat appearance of the earlier shot.
