More about me

Having achieved my initial targets I think it’s about time I told you something about myself.
FAQ’s
Why Row17? My late son’s season ticket at Aston Villa was for a seat in a Row 17, it’s my way of giving dedication.
How long have you been taking photographs? Since about 1958 so that’s 50 years.
What camera do you use? The camera’s I’ve used in all that time are:-
1958 – 1966 Brownie 127
1967 – 1970 Halina Paulette
1970 – 1980 Praktica SLR
1980 to present, Olympus OM2 (still my favourite camera).

Since the advent if digital camera’s I‘ve used an Olympus C2, Nikon D70 and a Nikon Coolpix L12.
Most of the pictures on this site were taken with the Coolpix L12.

My favourite subjects are wild flora & fauna, railways, architecture (usually pubs or parts thereof), mountains & whatever amuses me at he time. Most of my better pictures would therefore be regarded as Supplemental – that’s why I haven’t uploaded any!
Having a degree in Statistics, I’ve worked for a brewery, BT and the railways. I’m now retired so I have more time to indulge myself. I’ve travelled the length & breath of the UK, travelled extensively throughout Europe and North America, I’ve cycled from John o’Groats to Lands End, walked from London to Birmingham along the Grand Union Canal, I’ve cycled in the Arctic, sweltered in Singapore & visited Australia. Whilst recently visiting Philadelphia I was asked, if money was no object where would I live (the questioner expected me to say America). I replied that I already do. So where do I live? Having been brought up in Smethwick, I’ve also lived in London, Leicester, Cannock, Halesowen and since early 2007, in a village near Ironbridge in Shropshire. Which one? Sorry that’s my business. Geograph has provided me with the excuse, to explore the area with a vengeance.
Besides photography I’m also interested in hillwalking, cycling & reading, Although I’ve also been known to have the occasional pint (or several) of beer.
My other project at the moment is to scan 50 years worth of negatives & slides – that’ll take me about another 50 years!
