Cairnbulg is a private residence, so it was not possible to get a little bit closer without permission. But the castle can be visited by appointment. https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2486310
This small castle was built by the Earl of Huntly in 1564. It is an impressive stronghold which is thought to have been built as a hunting lodge, but possibly with the purpose of controlling the main access to Gordon country from across the Ladder Hills. Unfortunately it is now in a dangerous condition and no access within the surrounding fence is possible. The castle is a private residence and not open to the public. There was no possibility, to get a little bit closer for a better shoot.
The river in front of the castle is the River Deveron.text/html2011-07-02T09:07:24+00:00https://www.geograph.org.uk/profile/25402Astrid H57.507206 -2.775686NJ5346 : Avochie Castle ruin
https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2486082
Avochie Castle is a very ruined 16th Century Tower House. Only the gable ends, with a corbelled-out bartizan at one corner, survive. It was a property of the Gordons of Avochie, who took an active part in the fighting of the reigns of Mary, queen of Scots, and James VI. The modern Avochie House is nearby. The ruin is sadly not open to the public.
