        <description>For 130 years, Strand Road was bordered by factories - English Electric /BAE Systems on the East (left of the picture), GEC on the West. In 1993 the BAE factory closed, and the land is now being occupied by housing, retail and office developments. A plaque outside the housing (see supplementary picture) commemorates the long-lived factory.</description>
