        <description>Mine shaft used for the removal of stone from Stair hone mine. The shaft is only sized for one small hutch (wagon) at a time. The workers entered via the shaft or by walking down a gradual stepped entrance.</description>

        <description>Stair hone mill was worked on both banks of the river Ayr. This bridge was the main connection for the workers. Tam O' Shanter sharpening stones were mined and milled here for export with Asian rubber plantations being major importers, presumably for sharpening workers' cutting implements.</description>
