St Oswalds Way is a stunning 97 mile waymarked route, From Holy Island on the Northumberland Coast to Heavenfield Church on Hadrian's Wall. Tynedale Harriers, a running club based in Hexham, ran the entire route as a relay in September 2008, taking just over 13 hours.
My daughter Polly, club-mate Rhiannon, her son Fergus and I are about a mile from end of our leg.

The area around here, in the North Pennines AONB, is one of the most beautiful places in England; and yet this particular Grid Square has little to offer the photographer. Maybe that's why it was still 'up for grabs'! There are fine views from these grey stony moorland tracks, looking east across the valley of the Stanhope Burn.
