I came across this post while walking on Drumcroy Hill in May 2007. I think it is some sort of survey post for the hydro dam Loch Errochty which was built in 1957. There is a very good view of the dam wall to the NW from this point. The hill in the background is the 892 metre high Beinn a' Chuallaich.

There are two Rivelin Reservoirs, Upper and Lower. The lower was built in 1845 and the upper three years later. Locally they are known as Rivelin Dams. This photograph is taken from the dam wall of the lower reservoir, just by the overflow. The grass covered dam wall of the upper reservoir can be seen in the centre of the picture.

Although called Hillsborough Golf course, it is not that close to the Sheffield suburb of that name and is situated between Wadsley Common and the village of Worrall. The picture shows golfers walking up to the 6th tee which is situated beside Long Lane which runs alongside the course.

This chimney, a short length of horizontal flue and some foundations are all that remain of a small lead smelt mill at the foot of the bridleway at Cote in Waldendale that went over to Carlton in Coverdale. Locally mined lead was converted into metallic lead in a furnace called an ore hearth. Peat, dried wood and coal was the fuel for this smelting process. A working shift of 12 to 15 hours produced about one ton of lead. The mill was last used in the 1870s.
