About Me

Up to the age of 40 I lived in various places in Northern England.

I first used a camera at about the age of 11. After a couple of "instamatics" with small negative formats, I got my first 35mm camera at the age of 18. Thereafter I took mainly colour prints, though sometimes slides if expecting to give a presentation.

Most of my photos in the 1970s to 1990s were either of trains (hence the nickname) or taken on country walks. In the case of country views, I developed a habit of noting the grid reference, which came in very useful for this project later.

I moved to London in 2002 and acquired my first digital camera in 2005, joining the Geograph project the following year. I currently use a Canon G12 or a simpler and more compact Fuji Finepix JZ200.

Since 2009 I don't have a car, and as a result many of my contemporary contributions are urban in nature, especially "religious sites" as my paid work for the Church of England involves visiting churches.
