TM1823 : Abandoned Quay

The wreck of a Thames sailing barge lies by the abandoned quay at Beaumont-cum-Moze. Barges regularly took Essex hay and other produce to London, but now the cutting leading through the marshes to the open sea has silted up. The quay itself is made from stones brought from a former London Bridge.

TL5915 : Restored windmill at Aythorpe Roding

Windmills were plentiful in the flat landscape of Essex which is so similar to Holland. This superb restoration set against a stormy sky is accompanied by a four wheel drive vehicle - almost a badge of modern Essex man.
