The footpath emerges from the wood near Hell Coppice and crosses a clover field towards a prominent oak tree. One of the oaks in the hedge to the left was equipped with a ladder, which we exploited later.text/html2006-10-14T17:55:44+00:00https://www.geograph.org.uk/profile/7797Mark Edwards51.788852 -1.105419SP6110 : Bird's Eye View of Shabbington Wood

Taken from an oak tree which was fortuitously equipped with ladder and platform (better not tell anyone).text/html2006-10-14T17:51:41+00:00https://www.geograph.org.uk/profile/7797Mark Edwards51.789795 -1.111199SP6110 : Woodland Ride

The footpath passes along this beautiful woodland ride marking the boundary between York's Wood and Hell Coppice, both part of the Bernwood Forest. The tranquility is unfortunately marred by the continuous roar of traffic from the M40, about a mile away.text/html2006-10-14T17:46:51+00:00https://www.geograph.org.uk/profile/7797Mark Edwards51.789817 -1.114099SP6110 : Hell Coppice

The farmer was ploughing in a leguminous crop in the late afternoon sunshine with what looked like a seed drill. The scene captured the essence of this gridsquare, showing the agricultural activity against the backdrop of Shabbington Wood in Bernwood Forest.text/html2006-10-14T17:30:29+00:00https://www.geograph.org.uk/profile/7797Mark Edwards51.790716 -1.114081SP6110 : Light and Shade

The footpath from Chiltonpark farm crosses this ploughed field and skirts to the right of Chilton Grove, just visible through the mist.text/html2006-10-14T13:04:34+00:00https://www.geograph.org.uk/profile/7797Mark Edwards51.807109 -1.026734SP6712 : Footpath in the mist

This is the footpath from Chiltonpark farm to Chilton Grove - not marked on the old OS map. The land is mostly low-lying and damp, though it rises on the east of the square up to the ridge of Dorton Hill. Chiltonpark farm is spectacular. Sitting on its own isolated hillock, it can resemble a fortress! Regrettably it was not visible on this misty morning.text/html2006-10-12T21:53:04+00:00https://www.geograph.org.uk/profile/7797Mark Edwards51.805854 -0.984700SP7012 : Footpath to Chilton
