About Me

I am a retired glaciologist from the British Antarctic Survey and love wild places, particularly the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. I am a Trustee of the Gatliff Hebridean Hostels Trust that runs three youth hostels in the Uists and Harris. For 25 years I taught adults for the University of Cambridge about Antarctica, climate change and environmental issues.

My greatest delight is the coastline of the Scottish islands.

We stay in the Black Isle where walking and cycling is a pleasure in a rural environment just six miles from Inverness. We have a five-acre smallholding with plenty of woodland and views over Munlochy Bay. We have immersed ourselves in Scottish Country Dancing and Transition Black Isle while learning the skills of crofters.
