Marsh / Adel / Meanwood / Sheepscar / Lady Beck

A tributary of the river Aire which changes its name four times in its 15.5km (10 mile) course, the beck rises at SE 24004300 and flows as Marsh Beck for 3.5km to Golden Acre Park, thereafter becoming the Adel Beck for a further 3.5km to Scotland Wood. Up to this point it has been a small rural stream, but from here onwards takes on an increasingly urban and industrial character, as it becomes the Meanwood Beck for the next 5.5km with many small weirs, dams and intakes that provided water for the mills of the Meanwood Valley. From Buslingthorpe, it becomes the Sheepscar Beck for 1.5km to where it flows under the A61 (Regent Street), and finally as the Lady Beck flows mainly in open or underground culverts for a final 1.5km through the city, discharging to the Aire just above Crown Point Weir at SE30863311.
