Newtown Santa Run :: Shared Description

I have seen claims that Santa fun runs originated in Newtown. I don't know if that's true but they certainly made it into the Guinness Book of Records in 2004 when 3,445 adults took part in the town's annual Santa Run. The organisers of the 4.5 mile charity run set a new world record for the largest gathering of Santas in a single place.
The run is organised by the local Dial-a-ride charity which runs a transport service for the disabled and elderly. Participants pay to enter and can, of course, raise money for their own chosen cause through sponsorship.
The 2010 run had about 200 participants - it was an extremely cold day.
