Pollington Lock
The top pair of gates represents the original lock from the opening of the Knottingley to Goole section of the Navigation in 1826. A third set of gates, roughly on the site of the current third gate along from the top, was added in 1861 to allow the passage of Tom Pudding trains. The lock in its current layout with two full sets of gates dates from the period immediately after the first World War, which enabled trains of up to 19 Tom Puddings to be locked through. All gates are now hydraulically powered, with a control cabin adjacent to the lower pair of gates.
