Wouldham

Wouldham is a small village on the bank of the River Medway in Kent. It has an 11th century church, one school, one village shop, and three public houses. The village grew in the 19th century due to the nearby chalk quarries. Until 1963 there was a ferry across the River Medway.
Walter Burke, who had the distinction of being the purser aboard Victory at the Battle of Trafalgar and of having cradled Lord Nelson himself in his arms as the great man died, was a resident of the village and is buried in the churchyard.
