Walter Scott Bridge

The railway bridge over the River Tees was built in 1882 by Walter Scott of Newcastle for a cost of £18,550 and replaced an earlier suspension bridge built in 1830 to extend the Darlington and Stockton railway to the staithes at Middlesbrough.

The bridge was last used for freight in July 1988 and the plan is to replace the bridge with a £8m new one for freight traffic with Tees Dock.
